The demanding of higher bandwidth is stronger than ever before. This is driving the data center upgrade from 25G, 40G, 100G to 400G or more. Currently most of the data centers, enterprises, metros, and long haul networks are using cost-effective 40G or 100G connectivity. However, due to the bandwidth demanding, venders are starting to deploy 400G solutions. This article is about how to upgrade from existing 40G/100G network to 400G network.
40G and 100G Network
- Characteristics of 40G Connectivity
- Lowest cost per bit
- MMF reaches up to 400m
- 8-core (SR4) MMF for transmitting and receiving
- Breaks out to 4 x 10G
- Characteristic of 100G Connectivity
- Highest density per bit
- Lowest power consumption/bit
- MMF reaches up to 100m for now
- 20-core (SR10) or 8-core (SR4) MMF for transmitting and receiving
- Breaks out to 4 x 25GE
400G Network
while the current discussions on 400G speeds within the IEEE are based around several options for new generations of transceiver design. All based on parallel optics using 32, 16 or 8 fiber over OM3/OM4/OM5 cable.
The applications include:
- 400G BASE-SR16 (CFP8 16*25G) Application
- 400G BASE-SR8 (OSFP 8*50G) Application
- 400G BASE-SR8 (QSFP-DD 8*50G) Application
400G Network Topology
400G SR8 Interconnections
40G / 100G SR4 Application via 16 fiber system
Benefits of MTP-8/MPO-8 Connectivity
- Optimized for both two-fiber and eight-fiber transceiver technologies
- Enables 100% fiber utilization for eight-fiber transceiver systems without the additional cost and insertion loss
- Cable harnesses can easily route to all common port counts on switch line cards
- Only requires unpinned MTP/MPO patch cords for any connections within the link
- Most flexible solution for 40G, 100G and 400G transmission networks
Product Introduction:
MPO-16 FIBER OPTIC PATCH CORD
MPO-16 Fiber Optic Patch Cable consists of multi core fiber optic cable and corresponding 16/32 core high density MPO/MTP connector. The connector might be female or male with guide pin. The fiber support single mode and multimode, the single mode fiber including G652D / G657A1 / G657A2, the multimode fiber including OM1 / OM2 / OM3 / OM4 / OM5, or bending insensitive multimode cable.
